How to Use a Geometry Formula Cheat Sheet in Exams
Many exams give you a geometry formulas cheat sheet. It only helps if you can find and use the right formula quickly. These tips make it work for you.
The tips
- Practise with the same sheet before the exam, so you know where everything is.
- Identify the shape and what is asked (area, perimeter, volume) before you look at the sheet.
- Copy the formula exactly, then substitute. Most lost marks come from copying errors.
- Check the variables: is it r or d? Vertical height or slant height?
- Check the unit: length, square or cubic.
- Know what is NOT on the sheet: usually area of a rectangle and triangle, and the circle formulas. Learn those by heart.
Common mistake to avoid
Picking the formula that “looks right” without checking the variables. The sphere sheet lists both 4πr² and ⁴⁄₃πr³; one is surface area, the other is volume.
Practise like the real thing
Print the free cheat sheet, set a timer and solve ten questions using only the sheet. Then check with the calculators on each shape page.
Every shape is on the geometry formulas page, and the most common ones are in our 10 geometry formulas every student should know guide.
